K S Hegde Medical Academy Mangalore

K S Hegde Medical Academy is now a constituent unit of the Nitte University and is recognized by the Medical Council of India, Government of India. KSHEMA has signed an agreement of co-operation with the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Houston, USA for co-operation in research on diseases like malaria and tuberculosis. The college has established a state-of-the-art regional research center on communicable diseases in collaboration with the University of Texas Health Sciences, on the campus. The Institute also has a staff exchange and training program  with Maimonides Hospital, Brooklyn, USA.

The Institute started admitting students to the undergraduate course, MBBS from the year 1999-2000 and to postgraduate courses like MD, MS and DNB from 2006. Students are offered the best of opportunities for both theoretical as well as practical training with the help of state-of-the-art facilities, valuable clinical material and guidance by experienced teachers and researchers. The Institute is attached to the K S Hegde Hospital so adequate infrastructural support is available for patients and student training. The KS Hegde Hospital, is a full fledged 715 bed hospital attached to the Institute. The hospital has state-of-the-art facilities in Anaesthesiology, Dermatology, ENT, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Radiology and TB, Chest & Respiratory diseases. Keeping pace with changes in health sciences and technology, the hospital has started a super – speciality block consisting of Cardiology & Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Neurology & Neuro Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Urology & Nephrology and Craniofacial Surgery departments.

These departments have advanced facilities such as ECHO, TMT and Holter for entire non-evasive work, state-of-the-art flat panel cathlab, a variety of interventional options including coronary and peripheral angiograms via femoral and radial route, coronary and peripheral angioplasties, drug eluting stent implantation, temporary and permanent pacing, AICD implantation, paediatric interventions like ASD, VSD, PDA and device closure, specialised laproscopic set up for paediatric patients, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, urethro reno scopy, neuro OT, neuro endoscope, spinal surgery equipment supported by a full fledged neuro ICU etc.
